Workshop on Soft Matter Dynamics: Slow and Fast

Overview

Due to the coronavirus issue, this event has been cancelled.

• Date: March 25 (Wed) – 26 (Thu), 2020.
• Venue: Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, Gokasho, Uji-city, Kyoto, Japan 611-0011

Theme of the workshop
Soft Matter, due to their mesoscale structure and their sensitivity to external conditions, exhibit rich and diverse dynamical phenomena both under equilibrium and far from equilibrium. Traditionally, and for good reasons, the focus of research has been on the long-time or slow dynamics of these systems. This remains an active area of research and much remains to be understood. However, the fast dynamics cannot always be ignored. Besides their inherent importance in understanding local phenomena, ultimately, it is the repeated local, fast motions that result in the global, slow dynamics. Therefore, there is some advantage to adopting a broader view that encompasses both slow and fast dynamical phenomena in soft matter. To this end, we invite soft matter scientists with expertise in experiments, theory and simulations to join us in this workshop. We hope this workshop can provide a forum for active and robust discussion that leads to strong collaborations and novel interdisciplinary cross-fertilization.
